6-Day Kilimanjaro — Machame Route
Overview
Machame route is the second most popular and one of the most scenic routes on the mountain. All climbers sleep in tents (tents are included) and healthy meals are served in a dinner tent or on a blanket outside. Done over 6 days, acclimatization is easier and the success rate is fairly high. Descent is down the Mweka trail, staying at Mweka or Millennium camp the final night on the mountain.

Day 1 — Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Drive from Moshi to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Machame Gate (approximately 45 minutes). The journey passes through the village of Machame on the lower slopes of the mountain. After registration, depart the park gate and walk through the rainforest on a winding trail up a ridge. Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), continue towards the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point, stop for a short rest and be rewarded with a magnificent sunrise. From Stella Point, ascend for approximately 1 hour to the summit. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), you stand at the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro — the Roof of Africa. Descend straight down to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. Arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy the last evening on the mountain.
