Ngorongoro Crater
About Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa's most spectacular natural wonders.
Formed two to three million years ago when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself, the crater now spans 260 square kilometers with walls rising 600 meters.
Inside this natural amphitheater live approximately 25,000 large animals, making it one of the most densely populated wildlife areas on Earth.
The crater floor is one of the best places in Africa to see the endangered black rhino, along with lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and flamingos on Lake Magadi.
