Lake Manyara National Park

About Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park may be one of Tanzania's smaller parks, but it punches well above its weight.

Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park encompasses a stunning variety of habitats — from dense groundwater forests to open plains and a vast alkaline soda lake.

It is famous for its tree-climbing lions, an unusual behavior found in few other places.

The lake itself attracts massive flocks of flamingos, while the forest is home to large baboon troops, blue monkeys, and over 400 bird species.

It was described by Ernest Hemingway as 'the loveliest I had seen in Africa.'.
