Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. The charming place is the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park. Upon arriving you will first register at the village office before you day activities begin
First you will visit the waterfall, which is about 40-minutes’ walk from the village office, on the way your guide will explain about the culture, social economic activities and tradition of the Chagga tribe. The landscape of the area is breathtaking with awesome views of Kilimanjaro summit on clear days, upon arriving at the waterfall, which is about 80 meters from the cliff above. The pool at the bottom invites guests for a swim, if you have your swimming costume indulge yourself with the allure of Kilimanjaro natural spring waters, followed by a mouth-watering local lunch, and you might try the native Chagga local beer for a taste to keep the day going.
Next will be the coffee experience, here your guide will give you’re the insight of how coffee is picked, dried, roasted and further processed, you might decide to participate on one of the above, which is traditionally accompanied with songs and local beer, a fun way to indulge with local culture and be part of it. At the end of your tour, you will appreciate village life for days to come before returning to Arusha or proceed to the airport for your onward connection.
